TESTIMONIALS

Adam Peaslee has been our general contractor our 200-year-old Cape in Tuftonboro. He did a complete exterior and interior remodeling of our living and dining rooms, tear down and rebuilding of our large kitchen and porch, and construction of our three-car garage, office and covered walkway. He is also scheduled to be our general contractor for a new first floor bedroom suite in spring of 2025. Yes, that’s a year and a half from now but we would rather wait than have anyone else handle it.

He is the best, highest quality, on time and most of all on budget gc we have ever had the opportunity to work with. I have worked with many in Bedford, NH and Boston MA, and Adam is far and above the best. He has always been able to take my vision and make it a reality that exceeds our initial expectations. He is calm, patient and dedicated to delivering on every project.

When we decided to expand and renovate our house on Lake Winnisquam, we had two criteria. 1. The design had to fit our busy family's lifestyle and 2. The new part had to look as though it had always been there.

The original structure, built in 1964, is a "California ranch" that bends at 45 degrees to fit into the lakefront landscape. It was built using the best materials. The architect, Christopher Williams, with Liz Venus as the project architect, did a great job of designing the addition to meet the “always there" criterion. Other than a window plan, however, we opted to forgo detailed plans in favor of hiring a contractor that the architect recommended. That was the best decision of the entire project.

The R.N. Peaslee experience was a total joy, from excavation to finished woodwork and cabinetry. In the selection of materials, they were very demanding of quality. The special "always there" siding, for instance, could have been milled using inferior grade wood. After consulting with Dan, we opted for clear cedar, to match the original, even though it was to be painted and nobody would know the difference for many years.

We had almost daily discussions, made changes on the fly, Dan scheduled the subs seamlessly and some very complex design issues were handled without a pause. The new addition bends again at 45 degrees, where it meets a trapezoidal ceiling that was not detailed in the design. The Peaslees framed it without a pause, complete with weird angles as planes of wall and ceiling met with some structural challenges. As an engineer, I would have spent hours going over drawings and trig tables. The Peaslee crew just did it! Other details, such as under floor radiant heat, a hotel-like hot water circulating system, thick walls with super insulation, soundproofing a media room, and many other challenges were handled without missing a beat. In the finished product, Adam Peaslee, a super cabinet maker, designed and built a series of built in dressers and cabinets with very little in the way of design specs and just a few sketches. In every case, the finished product turned out better than we had imagined! I could go on but you get the idea that we are very glad to have worked with R.N. Peaslee on this project. I recommend them without reservation and will be glad to answer any questions about them or their work.
R. N. Peaslee and Sons, Inc. did an excellent job on our addition and renovation; we highly recommend them for both new and renovation construction. From working with the architect, city officials and their subcontractors to their command of all elements of construction and cabinetry, the Peaslees worked hard to exceed our expectations.

Our primary goals were to create a master suite with complementary additional rooms and to renovate our existing home in a way that flowed seamlessly, as though the new space had always been part of our home. This they accomplished beautifully using quality materials.

The Peaslee crews were available to us at all rimes both during their very productive days and in the evenings when we had questions or changes. They were so pleasant 10 be around which was critical to our ability to remain in our home througbout the project. The few w1expccted issues that arose during the project were dealt with immediately. Dan and Elaine were always on top of all major details while Bryan orchestrated everything on site effortlessly. He understood our design aesthetic and desire for quality materials. When it was time to create additional cabinets to match those in our existing kitchen, Adam's cabinetry skills enabled him to create exactly what we envisioned using only our rough sketches.

We recommend the Peaslees without reservation and would be happy to talk with or meet with any of their prospective clients to discuss their excellent work.
We used R.N. Peaslee & Sons to construct an addition to our house in Moultonborough, NH. The addition essentially doubled the size of the house and included a new kitchen, master suite, garage, and guest area. We were extremely satisfied with the working relationship and ultimate outcome of the project. Of prime interest to us was an open line of communication and sense of trust between all involved. Dan kept us aware of any issues and/or options on completing certain aspects of the project which allowed us to make decisions rather than having them made for us.

The project crew was absolutely professional every day. I (Don) lived in the basic house during the entire project. The construction was phased to make sure there was very little disruption in normal daily living. I did not have to move out at any time and there were actually only a couple of days when a full kitchen was not available.

Another thing we were interested in was the quality of the subcontractors and again we were very satisfied. All of them worked well with us and it was obvious that our satisfaction was important to them.

Obviously cost overruns is a primary concern of anybody considering undertaking a major renovation. Our expressed expectation was that the final cost should be reasonably close to the original estimate and that estimate was to be based on quality goods and workmanship. There were a few elements of the project that were more expensive than anticipated, but none of these were the result of poor estimating. Given that, we were very satisfied with how the final cost related to the original estimate. I'm sure we could have found somebody who would have provided us a lower initial estimate, however, I'm sure it would have been based on lesser quality materials and workmanship and more than likely resulted in above normal cost growth.

The bottom line is that we have a house that we love and still consider Dan, Elaine, and the crew friends.

No regrets!
Adam and his family built our house on Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonborough in 2008.  They were very well recommended by their clients, and took us in to see a few other houses that they’d built in our neighborhood.  What impressed us even more, though, was that a number of other people in the trade – architects, surveyors, and inspectors – who told me they did not provide recommendations, went out of their way to tell us how good a choice we’d made after we hired the Peaslees.

We really enjoyed the process, and have enjoyed the quality of our house for over 15 years.  How many people can say – as we can – that they never had a disagreement with their builder?!  We particularly appreciate it when we notice all the little decisions that the Peaslees helped us make during the construction – they are local builders who know what works, and know how to build a house that will stand the tests of time and New Hampshire winters.

Our family has expanded in the 15 years since the Peaslees built our house, so we decided last year to renovate the house to meet our current needs.  There was no question that the Peaslees were the only ones we’d let do the work.  Adam has taken over the business now, and we’ve enjoyed working with him as much as we did with his dad.  He inherited his dad’s unwavering integrity and attention to detail.  We’ve had a collaborative relationship, which has made the whole process so enjoyable.

In addition to the work he’s done for us, we’ve recommended Adam to a number of friends in the Lakes Region, and the feedback we’ve received has been universally positive.  It feels really good to be able to recommend someone and get such positive feedback in return.

We hired Dan Peaslee and his crew to do a major addition/renovation project in 2005 - 2006 that involved excavation, foundation work, removing pan of the roof from the existing house and replacing it with an arc shaped interior ceiling, and adding new space some, of which had complex framing. The project took several months and was completed on time and on budget. Workmanship was excellent and the workers were good about cleaning up each day which was important to my wife as we were living in the house during the duration of the job. Dan and Jon made suggestions along the way that improved the design/function of the architectural plans. Finally, when the project was complete, they stood by their work and that of their subs, as there was a roofing issue that they corrected in a timely manner. They are quite customer friendly, and we would recommend them without qualification.
